The short answer: anti-wrinkle injections typically last between three and four months. Most clients start to notice movement gradually returning around the three-month mark, with full movement back by four to five months.

But the real answer is a bit more nuanced than that. How long your results last depends on several factors, some of which are within your control and some of which are not.

What affects how long anti-wrinkle injections last

Your metabolism. People with faster metabolisms tend to process the product more quickly, which means results may fade sooner. If you are very physically active or have a naturally high metabolic rate, you might find your injections wear off closer to the three-month end of the range.

The treatment area. Different areas of the face respond differently. Frown lines (the vertical lines between your eyebrows) tend to hold results well because the muscles there are relatively small. Forehead lines, where the muscle is larger and moves more frequently, may fade slightly sooner. Crow’s feet sit somewhere in between.

Muscle strength. Stronger, more active facial muscles break down the product faster. This is partly why results can vary between clients even when the same dose is used in the same area.

First treatment vs repeat treatments. If this is your first time having anti-wrinkle injections, your results may not last as long as they will with subsequent treatments. Over time, with consistent treatment, many clients find that their results begin to last longer. The muscles gradually weaken from reduced use, meaning they need less product to achieve the same effect. Some long-term clients find they can extend the gap between appointments as a result.

Dose and placement. This is where the skill of your practitioner matters. The right dose in the right location gives natural-looking results that last. Too little and the effect fades quickly. Too much and you risk the frozen look that most clients want to avoid. An experienced, qualified practitioner will tailor the dose to your facial anatomy and your goals.

What happens as the injections wear off

Anti-wrinkle injections do not wear off suddenly. The effect fades gradually over several weeks. You will start to notice small movements returning in the treated area, and over the following weeks those movements will return to their full range.

Your skin will not look worse than it did before treatment. This is a common concern, but it is unfounded. The injections do not accelerate ageing or cause new wrinkles. What happens is simply that your muscles return to their pre-treatment level of activity, and the lines that were there before become visible again.

If anything, clients who maintain regular treatments often find their skin looks better over time because the muscles have been kept relaxed, giving the skin a chance to smooth out rather than being creased repeatedly.

How often should you rebook?

Most clients settle into a pattern of rebooking every three to four months. Over time, as the muscles adapt, some find they can stretch that to four or five months.

The best approach is to rebook when you start to notice movement returning, rather than waiting until the effect has fully worn off. Treating before the muscles have fully reactivated tends to give more consistent results and can help extend the intervals between treatments over the long term.

Most treatments take around 15 to 20 minutes depending on the number of areas being treated.
